Using the Default Apps of the iPad to Implement the Middle Way Method

This entry is part 6 of 6 in the series Middle Way

I recently updated my iPad to iOS 5.  In the process of updating my iPad lost all its data.  I had used a variety of apps to carry out my method.

I like using the default apps because I know that I can sync them to iCloud, or Google, or Yahoo, keeping me from losing my data if my iPad fails.

The Apps

  • Notes
  • Calendar
  • Reminders

Notes

The Notes app will sync with Yahoo, GMail, or iCloud, depending on how sync has been setup on the iPad. I use Notes to keep my mission, and vision statements, and sync them to my GMail Account.  I also write my weekly journal entries in one file for each month and sync the file with GMail.

Reminders

The Reminders app can sync with Yahoo, iCloud, or some Exchange Servers. I use the Reminders App to list everything I want to do. I make lists for each project I have on my plate, and then I list each item in the project I need to do. I add dates for being reminded throughout the week.

Calendar

Calendar is where I keep my calendars.  I have a work calendar, from my Exchange server at work, and my personal calendar.  I keep my calendar on week view, so I can see my current week all at once.  I also schedule time on my calendar to do the tasks I select for the week from my projects.

The Planning Process

  1. Get the iPad
  2. Open Notes, and Review Mission and Vision Statements
  3. Open Note for Journal Entries, and answer the questions for the previous week.
  4. Decide on Roles to act on, and Make Entries for them in the Reminders App on a Roles List
  5. Decide on Self Improvement goals and enter them on a Reminders List
  6. Process loose papers and e-mails into system
  7. Decide on Items from projects from Reminders lists to do this week, and set reminders for everything.
  8. Schedule time on the Calendar as needed for items to do.
